Announcing Greenlight

I've submitted Blackshift to Steam Greenlight. Vote here.

For those unaware, Greenlight is Steam's indie game vetting program. If enough people vote for Blackshift, it gets accepted to be made available on the Steam game marketplace, giving it the opportunity to become much more popular. This means more people making levels, and more people playing yours.

  2. Sweet, voted! @Obie, if you have trouble accessing an old steam account I have to tell you they have world class support that will be able to help you if you provide them with enough details. I managed to revive an old account without access to the email-address with which I signed up in the first place...

  3. Shit, I haven't spent money on Steam albeit, but I got in. I will have to buy a $5 donut I guess. Meanwhile over 1500 hits on my levels today! A record methinks - averaging about 1000 hits per day but, will not publish another level until someone knocks me off the top line of the level pit so get building freaks! May publish unfinished levels so I can edit them from another location! I am still building! You will never catch me! Buahahahah!

  4. Hey Mills, I see you are lurking my 19 page level pit - time to take a stab at one of your own. That is why I can't get on the leader level because, I don't get a win if I beat my own levels except in the Win Doc category which is acting kinda weird but whatever. Try "Unplugged" and see if you can find the solution! I pulled one that you beat that I messed up. It is fixed now but not going to re-introduce it until somebody knocks me off the top first! I got two others as well but might extend one to be a multiple orgasmic level of which I will only know the secret (kinda like Wunk).

Tatascan is moving in on Bobby albeit, drerio used to own that spot.

I gotta problem with this timing schit for levels because, the game does not start at the first push, but on the second and, I have proven it with my speed start tests where the ship is on a down tile and everyone gets the same score, However, if he is on a neutral tile, the speed keyboards win! You gotta fix that Rob!

    1. Obie is it fixed now so that you can go and edit old levels? Unplugged really needs a save or two... maybe one past the yellow gate and another in the room with the blue orb. It's frustrating to play for 7 minutes and have to restart because you pushed a block against the wall on accident.

      Delete
    2. Actually, maybe I should do that as a test for Rob but he has got another problem to fix right now. Try "Weiners R Us WIP" on my level pit. Can't be won because I was still working on it - something happened on my edit - something fucked up! I can see the issue but he needs to see it first. However, I get a win on that level???? I will put saves on Unplugged as you requested and hope it doesn't mess up the scores!

      Delete
    3. well i was less concerned about my score than other people wanting to play it. I was ready to give up but I like seeing myself on top of that win column (that you would be at the top of if you could get wins on your own levels.)

I Tried weiners r us and its just death

    4. yow!!!
sorry for my english, i'm french...
first, i want you tell you that i started to play your levels because i love your way of thinking and making levels... i never built levels and it looks impossible to make something so clever than yours, and booby's ones, and wunk's ones, etc...
i was loving having a "fight" against you, i don't care about the leader levels, but i can tell you that i will be aware not tochoose your levels...

congrats to you, bobby, bibby, wunk, and all the others who make this game so amazing for many years

    1. Troll face is gone - damn. Otay, made the changes but, you now have to win it again because it messed up the game on Unplugged when I added the saves!

      Delete
    2. Troll face isn't gone, it's just SECRET now. Check the changes in my last post — I said I only removed one thing and it's true.

      Delete
    3. I assume you have looked at that anomaly on that level I talked about so, I will fix it as promised. 3 more levels coming up!

      Delete
    4. Just published 3 levels but don't have time to win them. Gotta make pancakes - have fun mi amigos! Thanks Bobby and Rob for knocking me off the top - time for action on this pit "eh Mills!" Go to the end of my level pit to find them.

  6. well i finally beat "dizzy" with the conveyer belts. that's a tough motha of a level.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Glad you did. Felt alone! Use the search machine and type dizzy, it is an old netshift level which was even harder to beat and built another where you have to go in the back nine with bugs to shoot the red button. Would like to resurrect DOK but missing a few new tiles from Rob and a machine gun. It was a level made by myself, Domna and Kadoffe. Too bad I can't give a screen shot of that level on this forum.

  8. Anyone else having a problem with lag? I can;t get through "the claw" because there's this one room that lags so bad I can't escape the enemies. I *am* playing on a different computer than before - my wife's macbook air (my old computer was destroyed by rain). I turned off the background and glow and that helped a teeny bit, but it was still quite laggy. Perhaps a standard macbook air doesn't have the optimal processing capabilities for Blackshift?

I wonder if it's a product of the upgrade though, since the new promo video seems to show a little bit of lag.

    maybe it's just me doe

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No lag on my end - even played it your way. Rob developed it on a mac methinks and macs have way faster video than my crap assed Acer!

    2. Can't even remember what I was testing on that last one! Jeez, losing it! I will remember tomorrow. Ha ha - 2 inches of snow already. I guess I should pull the boat out of the Canadian deepfreeze during climate change!

      Delete
    3. My way? Do you mean without background or glow or do you mean like, hella good? ;)

I may beat a lot of levels but obie-50 master race has me completely stumped, like I try again once a month and still no can do. I can't get the transition between the room with the green and yellow push blocks and the room to the right of that with the conveyer belts. I have a feeling the green blocks need to be pushed into the next room but honestly no clue...

Canada. Hey can I move there? Something.... happened here and I.... I kinda want to leave...

      Delete
    4. It is like another level I made. You have to save one block to push down the conveyor belts but use some of the others to fire the cannon plus clear the way for the bullet. There is some redundant stuff there - take a bullet with you to the right. Ha ha - yer half way thru! Numbers then tell you how many to shoot so you don't shoot yerself!

Just snowed 4 inches - still wanna move to Canada? Guess I better pull the boat outta the water!

      Delete
  9. I changed Stupid Test because it was a test. I can't start the game fast enough so with an arrow tile starting me, I can keep up with the rest of the flock. I dunno if it is a keyboard thing or what? Double click to start is killing my scores!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Holy crap Fepe, that was a unique way to win that level - but you died as expected! ha ha ha! I also hid the goal far away from the bombs in front of the lasers!

    ReplyDelete
  11. LOL at your play of my edit of A Brother on Skates, Obie. FUCK IT KAMIKAZEEEEEEE

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It works! Another Start Demo was fixed but, it was a test to see if I could still stop on sliders using the sticky tiles. I thought Rob said he was going to fix that but glad he didn't! That was only the start, the rest comes this weekend!

      Delete
    2. Part deux on the board since Mills (ahem, who hasn't made a level yet) destroyed part one - those deflectors will actually have to be used! I will figure out Parts 3 and quatro later. It will prolly be a 4 minute level! Ha ha ha with 4 saves! Use them wisely! ;)

      Delete
    3. Part 2 might lag a bit, if it does for you, I will delete the bug death in part 3. Thanks Pacopax - you found the solution! You could do it much faster though - the lasers will be eliminated in Part 3 with purple diamonds but, you will still have to get them. Save the deflectors, you will need one of them.

      Delete
  12. Otay Rob, here would be a nice addition to your search engine.
    Search by author
    Search by most played
    Search by most wins
    Search by least wins

Use a drop down box - I may add more as I think of them but "hardest" and "easiest" come to mind.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I mean... how do you quantify hard or easy? Perhaps play/win ratio? Play/win ratio might be an indicator of how difficult it is to not die playing it, but it might not indicate how difficult a puzzle it is to solve.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, Bobby's right. Counting players/winners rather than individual plays/wins might give a better idea of difficulty.

      Delete
  13. I have noticed that some people play my levels for speed so, they get a lot of hits. Not because they are hard but because they want top score! I dunno - got one level in my pit with over 1600 plays.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Got one level that nobody has beat with minimal plays!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh yeah Rob - let me shoot thru invisible blocks but not if they become solid. Also would like the walk thru blocks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nah, shooting thru invisible blocks might not be a good thing as Lasers will also be able to penetrate them. Still would like the kill counter and machine gun and the gun tiles where you have to shoot them (in Netshift)to make them work! Want to rebuild DOK and need them!

  16. Oh i liked very much the drerio's "Playing with pets" !!!

and now, i read that i have to test the Obie's "Unplugged".... i will unlock it very soon ;)

and i hope one day i will be able to build a level...
    Mills

    ReplyDelete
  17. Mills, I have no idea how you beat "Playing with Pets". Unplugged should be easy for you. You will prolly kick my sorry ass on that one but, whatever. I just build them for the team effort, find flaws, get them corrected. On some of my levels you will find stuff that is unexpected because Rob fixed them. There is another one that nobody has beaten except me - can't remember the name but it's in my pit somewhere. Try Zwiggyland or Passageways - hard to be Swiftshade tho!

    ReplyDelete
  18. hey obie,

your "Unplugged" was very awsome!!! i had to cogitate at each steps!!!
i really don't know howyou can find all these ideas...

and i didn't kicked your top score...
    Mills

    ReplyDelete
  19. Where are you from Mills? You also have top score on Unplugged as I changed it because Bobby wanted more saves which messed up my score (duh Rob!). I have made over 1400 levels in Netshift Beta, mostly utilizing flaws in the system which I liked. I like flaws but Rob is adamant so, I have to stick to the rules now. Cramps my style. Try "Up a Bug's Butt", fixed by Rob! The nice thing about Beta testing is to break the rules!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Gotta say I agree with Rob. While master Blackshifters may enjoy levels that exploit the flaws, it could be very frustrating for new players.

      Delete
  20. Oh yeah Mills, try both "Change Ends", you will like it!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mills - since you seem to like the brain teasers, take a look at Wunk's levels. There's a few I just can't figure out...

If you want one that tests your knowledge of game mechanics, try obie's "keys to happiness"

      Delete
    2. Ha ha ha, forgot about that one. It was kinda brutal! As for Wunk, his levels are impossible ha ha ha! He needs to give a tutorial on them!

      Delete
  21. I spent so much time not beating Key to Happiness because I was shooting the purple blockers in the right spot...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Everybody should get the same score on wintest2. The double click start is the cause!

      Delete
  22. BTW, The Ernie levels contain some alpha flaws still prevalent in Beta. Just put them there to see if Rob likes them or will destroy them in the next update. Ha ha - got another idea! Working on it. Oh Mills, you see, I make a little level, and expand it. I would expand it again but, I ran outta toys to play with :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wait till you play the next level, it is dirty nasty and you might die a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Schit, I can't even beat it but it is beatable! Maybe I should just publish it! Ha ha ha - You see where you messed up on Kitties Bobby? Go for it man!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Had to fix it, tis easier now. May expand it after the pork chops wear off!

  25. Rob, found an old flaw with the on/off lasers so, I put up a level to demonstrate. I got the laser to shoot sideways on it's own - ha ha

    ReplyDelete
  26. I also tested your fixes with the laser/clone anomaly as well, including the grille blocking the lasers. All worked fine - nice, now you gotta fix. The sideways laser is a bit weird! The directional block didn't cause it but the evil roller enemy hit the middle of the laser, died and left a stream of bad things down the road! Ha ha ha - you figure it out but it is neat flaw! I love flaws - that's why I find them - ha ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  27. "Impossible" was just a game starter and a test of some of Rob's fixes. Workin' on the back nine for that level and there will be no saves until you get thru the second part! BTW Rob, on the sideways laser, you can go back thru the deflectors and their are no lasers albeit, there is one invisible laser once the roller hits his target!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh yeah, forgot to add, you cannot clone to a de-activated grille so, I used a black null tile just for fun!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm getting yappy but, I got a game I made in Netshift that would be cool but need the replicator to work on both sides and whatever is on the other side gets replaced which in this case is the teleport landing spot or, a null tile with the other object. Actually, I got 3 Netshift levels that work that exploit. It adds a bit of magic to the game. Magic is good Rob! Adds a bit of fun!

    ReplyDelete
  30. "Impossible Too" coming up - Obie is diabolical! You will die, alot!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mills - play my Tsar of Locomotions. Challenging in both need for speed and puzzle aspects.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I may be a solitary voice in this but I'm not too crazy about the new flash on the screen when there's an explosion. Kinda harshes me out. Especailly when there's a level with rapid repeated explosions. Maybe it could be something you can toggle in settings?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Obie are you SUUUURE "Lost Me Keys!" is beatable? I've looked and looked and looked and I can't find the final step. In the room where you first start, above you, there's a bullet behind a ghost block. is that ghost block still supposed to be there? I can get all the way to the point where the mine blocking the checkered flag is triggered but I just can't get the mines.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just beat it, the blocked bullet is a ruse. Use the block to get rid of the bugs - take the key and go downstairs. It is the first part of a huge level I made in Netshift!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dammit Mills you keep breaking Ball n' chain! I give up.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Still trying to figure out how to get the bomb there! I must have missed something!

      Delete
    2. I can give hints. Mills broke the rules of the level but he still had to get through all the rooms so I'm satisfied.

      Delete
  36. Rob, an idea - let us show replays on public media with a link to the sign-up! It might work!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Also, as promised and with Netshift, we got to see our own replays after our win!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mills! it's your turn to make a level! Keep it simple to start. people like small simple levels.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I see you guys figured out the secret in Biggles Gets Laid. I meant to fix that but you beat it Bobby where I thought it was blocked. I may fix it yet. Making another two of which one will drive you two nuts trying to do it fast! Think I will call it Biggles Goes to Boston! Will give you a teaser in a minute! Ha ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  40. In my opinion, speed doesn't count in this game and it might be counter productive at this point of the development of Blackshift. Wins count, Master Builder counts, but most importantly, "Likes" count the most! Not speed because that is just frustration as I have proven that, some keyboards are faster - so, that is not fair! People will build if they get to move up the scale in most likes - which means, they are pleasing people and bringing more in the flock. Mark my words Rob, you need another win category called Hardest! We will work on this, meanwhile, building a new level while Mills and Bobby fight it out mostly on my levels! I don't even get a chance - almost working 20 levels of 15 games each! Slackards!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sorry Rob, Hardest should just be a side show - most likes should be premier! And don't forget Random because going thru my stack of levels tires my guys trying to beat them! Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ha ha - see how fast I can put out levels - your Biggly level Bobby, kinda fcuked up but, I like the concept - fix it dude, it has style. Soon I will do Pov where the fearful accountant, actually drops his pencil on the floor which turns into lasers unleashing the yet unpublished teaser tile that randomly destroys enemies in it's path as I make my way thru the maze - wait for it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Biggles Soup Kitchen" too hard for youse gays? Ha ha ha - methinks Pacopax will be the first - he is methodical. and takes his time. I renamed the spaceship Biggles, after American Sniper. Use it all you want! I delayed a bit in the win zone - I know how to beat it quick.

    1. People don't play the long levels. We need bibby back so he can play em.

    1. yeah I had the portable bomb there on accident as a vestige of the unpolished version of the level. These tiny levels are fun.

  45. Hope all you guys with a steam account will vote for Rob - he is famous around the world for best games! I am working on it! And I so want this game to succeed. Into my 20th level page! Ha ha - who has got 3?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I fixed Biggles Soup Kitchen Robbie - slip of the wrist to make that mistake - ha ha! But you found the short cuts - I will not play the modified game until you try it again - you got the win, I got respect!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I guess Rob's win algorithm put me back on top - oh well, you know the secret on Soup Kitchen Bobby so, go to town!

    1. oh I thought you had just changed the level because I skipped a part you didnt want skipped.

      Delete
  48. Rob - portable deflectors are still missing - just so you know. However, I did make a change, added a save tile and modified some of the tiles for cosmetics and but screwed up and the level became unbeatable - so fixed that and guess what? The score did not change and the level became valid again - have no idea how you figure out how a level is fooched!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I dunno why Blackshift crashed again on my computer but I think it is the Acer video card - don't sweat it - it does it alot - cheap portable piece of crap!

    ReplyDelete
  50. yesnomaybe, I always knew that level was flawed and that might be why Lunch, a brilliant netshift player abandoned it and I stole it. Your solution was brilliant. I couldn't duplicate the original level because Rob hasn't given me the sticky tiles from Netshift. I may change it in future so you MUST go thru the back nine but, will do it in another game so your score wins this one! I do screen shots of all my games for duplication reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yesnomabe, I will fix that level when I get 100,000 hits (which will be soon - ha ha)! Maybe by then, Rob will give me the sticky tile from Netshift. It is a tile that you can move stuff on it but, cannot move off the tile and the ship can move on it as well. In Netshift, it was a tan tile and I got ten levels waiting for it. Oh well, Rob is getting a bit slow these days but, the game is awesome. Promote it as much as you can!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Nice work on Lunch Bobby, you went thru the whole thing. I was impressed. Different strategy but effective. Methinks that level is legend and when I fix it from yesnomabe's solution, it will be legend, thanks to Lunch who designed it and left it in his level pit unfinished in Netshift. Too bad we can't find Lunch again because his levels were awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sorry, Lunch is off the table until you win the blue zone.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bobby, Lunch is back on the table - get yerself a win!

    ReplyDelete
  55. OMG Lunch just beat ur level?? his level i mean?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nice to see Lunch back in the game! He was and still is a good builder! Had to fix two mistakes as Mills keeps finding holes! Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The most challenging part about building levels is making them so people don't find work-arounds. Lunch's new level is a thing of beauty, BTW. Old netshift level perchance?

      Delete
    2. Didn't recognize it but it is filled with his style.

      Delete
  57. Oh, by the way - the first half is Lunch's who abandoned it in his level pit which we could hack in the old days. The second is mine so, it's a shared level! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I dunno if the Auto-Test Win will help Rob but, that has to be fixed!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Now, that Lunch is back, if we can only find Ren and Ernie15 and I know where Ernie hangs. Time for another SabikDK level! :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Rob, the bullets missing multiple deflectors may be because you allow the bullets to sink too deep in the deflectors. You need to make them hard targets. Or, the other theory is that when the bullets are spaced too close together they interfere with each other. I can see this a bit when I get hit by an enemy which backs off which makes the one behind it back off - just sayin' by observations.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Obie Level 300 coming up which is a compilation. 20 full pages of Soon, 300 levels for your enjoyment. Some are old compilations of my Blackshift/Netshift levels and it will be long with maybe, NO SAVES but will think about it (sabikDK might get pissed) - still got a level in my pit that nobody has beat! Fixing some mistakes that were beaten fairly so, they will not be edited, but changed. You guys enjoying Lunch as much as I always did. Man, if he can remember the masterpieces he did in the day, you will never figure it out! Gotta learn his style. Kadoffe, Wunk, Domna - where are you?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Holy crap, "Let's Do Lunch" got over 2500 plays. Glad to see Lunch back, was running out of ideas. Good luck Bobby on your finals! Making a few levels, will keep them in the back burners for a bit until you ace your Exams.

  63. Finals week is over, you can release your levels now!!

BTW Mills, if u see this, I wanna say I believe you would make good levels considering how good you are at figuring out how others' are broken. You have a big-picture skill that I apparently lack considering the majority of my levels need fixing after I release them.

    1. but let's be honest this message board is mostly Obie and myself shouting into an empty room.

    2. Wunk and Xindaris are promoting it on other threads. Domna is still interested but is having mand needs more menu items to finish her awesome level. Have do idea where Kadoffe has disappeared. We have to find new players like yourself. Still working on 3 levels but having some issues! Ha ha ha

    4. what other threads are out there? Domna is a woman? awesome! My wife saw this game and said it looks boring. I was like STFU.

      Delete
    5. Domna helped make DOK - the most awesome Netshift level ever! DOK stands for Domna Obie Kadoffe. We made a gamer name of DOK and shared the password and each person made a level - one level at a time and there were about 12 levels of evil! I will email Rob and show him the tiles we need. It was diabolical! Yes, Domna is a woman from Greece. Kadoffe and Wunk are from Germany. Xindaris is methinks from China but I dunno. Level 3 is out there now. The speed comes in the last portion.

  64. Ha ha ha - Tatascan found the hole in my last level which I left there for fun! I will fix it in future but build a new level as it is part two of two! Ha ha ha - tatascan - Mills will smoke it - you hesitated too much!

    Replies
    1. Part 2 of 2 coming up, well, maybe part 2 of 4. Looking at my new levels so speed is irrelevant. In Netshift days, we didn't care about speed, we cared about wins. Speed didn't matter as long as you beat it. Based on comments I have seen on the internet, speed kills the game enthusiasm for players. Wins only matter! Speed should only be a side bar with no relevance because it turns people off. They need a sense of accomplishment that they beat the level. Dump the Win Doctor and put up the Hard Bar - you can still have the Win Doctor as a side bar - but put it below the rest of the most important stuff. And Rob, you need to subject this game to Jay is Games or as you say, James is Gay because I did not find a single link to their website - also try Armor Games just for fun because they are douchebags. I should hit over 100000 hits on my levels this weekend! Proud to be Rob's minion tester - ha ha ha! Call me Pov or, Mrcarbonbusiness!

    3. I am changing my style to put Mills out of business until he puts up a map - fastest guy I ever seen and smart.

Almost got dereios' Playing with Pets figured out - you gotta get the bug in the back nine and not let him die. After that, I am clueless. Never have figured out Wunk's levels because everything is hidden because the game level limits your vision of what is really going on. I hate guessing, I wanna see what is happening - that is only fair! I try to build my levels in that fashion so the newbies can play and, we need new noobs! Or, Rob will dump this game like a dirty dish rag! And, I will be abandoned from him and probably die! Look at Lunch's levels, he is a master as well as xindaris (or whatever the hell his name is) - they dominated Netshift. I did as well but used flaws because that's what I did testing years ago! We are missing Ren but maybe I can reproduce a level he made. It is a bit nuts. No saves, only death!

  68. Yeah its a bummer to see new people aren't coming on board for such a great game. There are SO MANY games out there its hard to get noticed. I first found Blackshift on Addictinggames.com in like 2004.

    ReplyDelete
  69. You must have found the Original Blackshift on that site - time to promote the new Blackshift on that site! Robin needs to release levels 1 thru 10 as freebees. Nobody buys a game until they see the game and play the game. I could send you a few maps from the original Blackshift if you want. On Addictinggames.com, you will find the Hapland series that Rob made - try to figure them out! Ha ha ha!

Of course I am the Master Builder but, I thrive to be on the Win Doctor but can't because I don't get a win with my own levels - I don't mind that - it is fair so, somebody has got to build something so I can even post on the Win Doctor! Damn! BTW Rob, the crash reports you got from me are probably because of this cheap assed Acer crap so, don't try to figure it out! I crash regularly due to a video card fault in this cheap assed Chinese computer!

    6. Obie, what the hay? Is there a glitch I missed? I can't see anything you can do in that level except teleport to your death XD

      Delete
    7. Wunk, you have to super ultra fast to grab the key and block the left arrow tile from getting past the blocker - the two free bugs will die on the grille. Then push it up, run to hit the blue gun tile (which will raise the bullet/laser blocker tile after the grille) and push the left arrow tile up again. This will free the winged bug. Wait until the winged bug comes back and shuts off the grille and push the left arrow tile down which will free the right arrow tile before the bug hits the laser and will trap the bug shooting the yellow gun at the 5 hit block. Grab the diamond so you can push the right arrow tile up to the black tile so the bug keeps shooting the yellow gun which will block the permanent laser. Grab the key, open the lock and step on the goal. This game is all about blockers and high speed and timing. You don't need the portable bomb but to get to the lock, just use the teleporters. The roller bugs will kill you but you have already won! Look at the layout first by killing the bugs with the laser and avoid the block as it runs in the grille. It should all come clear.

      Delete
    8. Yeah, I figured that it starts with that key move, but I've given up on that level since most times I can't even get the key - let alone before the arrow block passes the gate.
Actually I was talking about your level Biggles Get Fried that you mentioned before, sorry for the confusion.

    1. Point taken. I usually try to make sure that you can see the important stuff, i. e. WHAT happens, not so much HOW. What's off screen is the dirty mechanics, mostly because I don't want to confuse you with stuff you're not supposed to fumble around with. If you want to see more, I'll try to add some kind of "look but don't touch" tours where possible, maybe with special floor markings.

      Delete
    2. Yeah well, I beat your laser stuff by memorizing the patterns. It was tougher than schit but after 200 tries, ha ha, I did it! I did finally figure out how you got those roller blades hitting in sequence - put it in my new level "LaVieEst Compliguee". It is quite simple actually!

      Delete
    3. I'm not sure which one you would need to memorize. Rotating clockwise or 1-2-3-4-repeat seemed intuitive enough to me, and the one time it's not that simple (I guess you're talking the first "Laser Show") it has the path drawn on the floor. If you follow the line step by step in the rhythm the laser changes, you should be fine.

    2. I know when I have made a successful level and it is when the Leader Board is full of names. I don't make them easy but do make them beatable without speed as a factor. Sometimes challenging but always visible so you can see the challenge ahead of you. Sometimes, the hint to win is in the title, sometimes not, cryptic. Robin has said his friends won't play the game because it is too hard! BTW, he actually works for a living and this game is just a hobby from a genius that doesn't like losing money on bandwidth charges and with over 100,000 hits on my multiple levels, more than anyone has produced. Don't be shy - you will make mistakes as obviously I have done. (And Derio, I finally figured out Playing With Pets - that was fcuking brilliant!). My last level, Tiempo Para Aprendar (Time to Learn) can be beaten by speed or patience!

      Delete
  81. I probably don't need to tell you of all people, you've known me the longest after all, but I rather make my levels something else. I get an idea and then try to make it work in blackshift no matter how. Often it gets way more difficult to play than I would like it to, but that comes along with all the restrictions to avoid "cheating" and loopholes. Therefore, if there's at least one name in that list (of course the more the better) I know at least it's possible.
(I too just beat that Derio level and agree completely. Awesome level)

    4. Ha ha ha - "Sort Your Mistake!"

    5. That's what you get for "not hiding stuff", you use as few mines as possible to let Obie and his friends go everywhere they don't need to, and they find a way to blow it up.
At least now I know that the win forwarding system for minor changes actually works, Bobby's still up there :D
@Bobby: I guess that would work as well, but that wasn't my intention. I admit the rollers part with the teleporter got a little out of hand (probably I was lucky when playtesting, didn't seem too hard), but the rest should be completely save when you're patient and only be a challenge when you go for the best time.

      Delete
    6. If I could have seen what was down there, I wouldn't have figured it out! I had to die 8 or 9 times to check out the holes and lo and behold, I found one!

Yes, the cosmetic changes work. I changed NEWS because when I right clicked and rotated the black bug and it also rotated the lined tile! So, I fixed it for cosmetic reasons.

However, rotating the bugs doesn't always work as they go back to their original position. Also, the universal teleporter does not work as Rob stated whereas, the next closest tile is where you are supposed to land - that doesn't work at all! Oh yeah, Wunk, Kadoffe may be back after a time out. Got an email from him! Domna from Greece is broke - she may be back!

      Delete
    7. Too bad we don't have the teleporter from Netshift where you could send the tile to another location and as well, where the clone machines actually change tiles or no tiles to something! Also, need a fixed block tile that when you shoot it from any angle except the gun, it shoots a bullet. Plus, a gun that when you shoot it, 3 bullets come out of opposite sides! I am so needy! Ha ha - would be nice to also have a blocker that only opens up when you kill all the enemies (thus my laser finishes and thus why I need the machine gun!) Have fun Robin, I hope you are listening! If you are, I will buy something stupid from Steam so I can vote but, not impressed with their games, only yours!

    8. Stetchus I had to laugh because that level taken with this original post seemed like a "Fine, you want easy, I'll give you easy!" Sort the boxes was fun.

It's good because it inspired me to make a couple levels that were puzzle based more than dexterity based. Pretty happy with UPS trucks.

      Have you heard from bibbythedark?

    9. > so, the universal teleporter does not work as Rob stated whereas, the next closest tile is where you are supposed to land - that doesn't work at all!

That's not how the white teleport works. Only the coloured teleports care which tile is closest. The white teleport works differently: All white teleports are strung together in a certain order, and when you step on one you get sent to the next one in the sequence. Also, the last one takes you to the first one, so it's a loop.

The actual sequence is based on the horizontal and vertical locations of the teleports. It basically just scans the whole level row by row, if you get what I mean.

Yep, all good ideas. I want to finish the graphics for the current items before adding any more, though, or I'll never get on top of things.

Currently doing the weak wall (shoot 5 times) graphics, which is the last remaining placeholder graphic. It's a pain.

      > I will buy something stupid from Steam so I can vote but, not impressed with their games, only yours!

Not sure which game is faster now as the Argentine Mendoza Malbec has affected my motor skills but I have beaten both. Ha ha ha - it would be nice to have a timer for testing levels Rob! New unbeaten level in my 31 level pit - over 300 maps. I have beaten it in practice mode and, you have to think because otherwise, it becomes difficult if not impossible! It would also be nice Rob if I could get a drop down radio button on levels so I could quickly go to the level pit I am looking for. 1400 levels in Netshift and just starting in BlackShift, I don't really want to scroll thru all that schit to find something! Have fun and vote for the game on Steam.

  88. I don't know Mills, Notre Damned is an intriguing brilliant puzzle. However, it requires a move that I don't have the dexterity nor speed to accomplish! Ha ha! People won't play your levels if you get a reputation as building levels impossible for normal players. We are in Beta and trying to get more people to play - it is called promotion! Look at some of mine where the levels are full of winners - that is when I know I have been successful. Keep Rob interested and he will put up the new tiles and weapons I need for DOK. I got one level with over 2000 plays and the level is full of winners and it isn't easy! EZDanceFloor still isn't that easy but better. You are a master of the game!

    2. I jsut beat it - It doesn't require any quick moves at all. The best hint I can give is to start by figuring out how to break the red gate open - it all seems to fall into place from there.

      Delete
    3. The red gate is easy as well as the grilles and I can get the bomb down the south side but from there, I am stumped! Oh, just like Wunk's levels, I can't beat them all. Modifying New Level Start - just checking the start times. You will have to use the bomb this time. Just fixed a level in my pit that didn't work as Rob planned. Somehow, the bullet passed thru the bullet colour changer and didn't change. Tried it a few times and it now seems to work - kinda weird!

      Delete
    4. Oh yeah, I did beat Wunk's "Safe Me" once but, it was in the days of flaky win stuff if you used a save tile. Also beat Rob's "Impossible City", same result! Had some fun in the beginning and I think I have a few levels with bugs because I am the only one that has beaten them!!!!

You know, we need names for some of these tiles/items. I can use the keyboard for lots of things like 1=key, 2=Rht Deflector, 3=Left deflector, 4=portable bomb, 5=bullet and so on but names would be better. Notice that the blue return item is now missing - gotta be fixed!

Wish list: Walk thru wall, kill all the enemies tile, machine gun, bullet tiles (I demonstrated that on "Ring of Fire". Frozen "Follower Helicopter" where when you shoot it, it comes alive. Blank grille tiles/Purple tiles but then, that would negate putting stuff on the purple tiles. A 4 gun moveable tile that when you shoot down one barrel, 3 bullets come out of the others. The red/blue tile where the ship (Biggles) turns a different colour and shoots different coloured bullets and if you enter a blue tile when you are red, you die! He had another item which I can't remember how I destroyed it but it was complicated!

Lot's of work to do but, VOTE on steam. Get an account, spend US$5 bucks and promote this game!

BTW, I think Mills is an awesome player. Reflexes and eye coordination are second to none - sometimes I can't see what he is doing he is so fast.

Which reminds me Rob, instant replays of the games we just played even if we didn't beat the top score!

I will think of more - meanwhile, trying to figure out a puzzle level where the brain is required, not speed!

      Delete
  89. BTW, I got three in my level pit not beaten. They are scattered. One is stupid, one is difficult (maybe impossible) to say the least (and it will be edited so, don't get excited) and the other is beatable but I left it there for Rob to analyse but now put the goal back in the game. I left a bunch of save tiles - I am not sure if this is a flaw but the end game is definitely a flaw. Shouldn't be hard to figure out with all the save tiles - search for "Flaw" - you will find it.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Sorry, I had to change a few levels which I was testing and exchanging them between two computers. Mills found one that I was testing for Rob but it seems to work now, not before. Trying to figure out what the problem was when the bullet colour changer didn't change the colour - I guess he fixed it. During testing, I left some important stuff in the top half that should not have been there.

you're right Obie, thanx for your tips! i am going to try to build some less dificult levels. that is true i love playing difficult levels, it is so good when you spend a lot of time, and then ,at the end, you find the clue!!! but all the players are not the same. that is true, again, that i try to mix brain and speed, but i think indeed i have to vary my styles... ;)
however "Malice", "Notre Dame", "chateau puzzle" , or "undeground slums" don't really need speed (except at the beggining of Slums)

  97. oh obie please help me!!! i have some questions...

how can you put two different tiles simultanely? for example, sometimes you hide a mine under a bullet, how can you do that?

and then, there are some tiles i can't find... for example, the fixed red (or blue) square deflector (sorry, i dont know the real name... but i speak about this square object which make bullet rebounding) ???

  98. Those were in alpha mode during original testing, you cannot do that anymore, Rob fixed them but he allowed the game to be played but I cannot modify them. Too bad because now I have to use the slider tiles to combine tiles.

  99. He also removed the red and blue deflector - I dunno why. They will be needed when he activates the Blue/Red tile from the original Blackshift. Sorry, I may be Canadian but speak little French.
